When I met my husband, he was in the Army, stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. We lived in a trailer outside of Ft. Leonard Wood, in St Roberts. It was not the best but it was home until we were able to get into housing on post. We had our first daughter there. There were times that Lyle, my husband, had to down range for days at a time. When he got of the service he drove a truck over the road. He would be gone for a week at a time. I would stay at home. When I was pregnant with our second daughter, he was in St Louis and his dispatcher wouldn't bring him home and he didn't know that I was even in the hospital. That was back when there were no cell phones and the only way to call anyone was on a house phone. After we had our youngest, he went back into the service and was stationed at Ft Carson, CO. We were separated for about 9 weeks. The girls and I drove to CO when our youngest was 11 months old. It was really hard for me to drive from Springfield, MO to Colorado Springs, CO. After we got there, we were together for 3 weeks and then he was deployed to WI to help with the Cuban Crisis in 1980. He was gone for 10 weeks. I didn't know anyone, it was tough. <br /><br />He has always driven a truck. I pretty much raised our 2 daughters. I have always been here for him when he does come home. I always made sure that things were done. I have done mechanic work on our pickup one time. Replaced a fuel pump, while his brother sat in the house. He said that I needed to know how to do things. His brother said that.<br /><br />They have always said that there are 2 of the toughest jobs a wife has.
